Benefits of Being Active

It used to be popular to say “I am not my body.” It’s partly true – we are more than just our bodies. But our bodies are also more than mere vehicles to get our brains from home to school or work and back again. Our bodies are how we experience and express ourselves in the world. Scientific research is showing us more every day that body and mind are not separate beings. Physical activity affects our thinking, our memory, our mood, our ability to focus, and how we interact with others. Thoughts affect how we hold our bodies, and how we care for ourselves. Psychological stress can damage our bodies. Physical inactivity can damage our minds. We are both mind and body. We thrive on regular vigorous activity, mental stimulation, and social connection.
